The dutch law has the “Covenant on unmanaged estates” for ghost assets of at least € 8,000 of people who are assumed to have died because otherwise they would be 115 years or older.

To whom and to which legacies does this covenant apply?


  • Bank accounts (current accounts, savings accounts and investment accounts) with a positive balance in the name of natural persons (with the exception of partnerships and general partnerships) who are (presumably) deceased and real estates. A large part is in the name of foreign entities, trustfunds and holdings.


If no heirs are found, this capital will go to the Dutch State instead of a blood relative such as yourself. Too bad about the money and certainly not the wish of your deceased relative.
